Why You Might Need to Download Images or Videos Directly From Squarespace

Sometimes you may want to download images or videos that you previously uploaded to your Squarespace website. Maybe you lost the original files or want to reuse them for a new project. Whatever the reason, Squarespace makes it simple to access and download your media directly from your site.

In this post, I’ll show you exactly how to do that using your built-in site tools on Squarespace.

Step 1: Access the Asset Library

Start by logging into your Squarespace account and opening the website where your image or video is stored.
In your dashboard, navigate to Website → Assets.

Once there, you’ll see a full list of all images, videos, and other files you’ve uploaded to your website. If you’ve organized your media into folders, those will appear at the top of the list.

Step 2: Locate the File You Want to Download

Scroll through the library until you find the specific image or video you want.
Hover your mouse over it and click the three dots (…) next to the file name.

From the dropdown menu, select File Details.

Step 3: Download the File

After clicking File Details, a preview of your image or video will open.
Simply right-click the media and choose “Save image as” (or “Save video as”) depending on the file type.

Choose the folder on your computer where you want to store the file, then click Save.

Step 4: Verify the Download

Head to the folder where you saved your file to make sure it downloaded correctly.
You can now reuse it for design updates, backups, or new Squarespace projects.

Conclusion

And that’s it! You’ve learned how to download images and videos using the built-in Asset Library. It’s a quick and reliable way to recover old media files you no longer have stored locally.
