How to Remove the Header in Squarespace
To remove the header in Squarespace, open Pages, hover the page and click the gear icon, then go to the Navigation tab in page settings. Toggle the header off, the footer off, or both, and save.
Turning the header off
In your dashboard, click Pages under Website to see all your pages.
Hover the page you want to change and click the gear icon to open its settings.
Select the Navigation tab, which sits just under General. This is where header and footer visibility is controlled, and it's per page rather than sitewide.
You'll see two toggles. Switch off the header, the footer, or both.
Save, then check the live page.
When stripping the navigation is worth it
Removing the header sounds drastic and is occasionally exactly right.
Paid landing pages are the main case. If you're sending traffic from an ad, every link in your header is a way for that visitor to wander off before converting. Removing the nav routinely lifts conversion on those pages, which is why almost every dedicated landing page you see has no menu.
Checkout and thank-you pages benefit too. Once someone is buying, the job is to keep them going.
What you shouldn't strip is a normal page someone might reach from search or from your menu. Removing navigation from a service page traps visitors with nowhere to go except back.
What to put back when you remove it
A page with no header still needs a few things, or it feels broken.
Put your logo at the top, unlinked or linking home. Without it, visitors lose the sense of whose site they're on, which hurts trust on exactly the page where trust matters most.
Keep one clear action. That's the whole point of removing the menu, so the page should have a single obvious next step repeated as the visitor scrolls.
And keep the legal basics somewhere, usually a minimal footer with privacy and terms links, which matters if you're running paid traffic since ad platforms check for them.
Doing it across several pages
The toggle is per page, so a set of ten landing pages means ten trips through page settings.
If you're building landing pages regularly, it's worth setting up a template page with the header and footer already off, then duplicating it rather than starting fresh each time.
For anything more conditional, like hiding the nav only on mobile or only for visitors from a campaign, that's custom code rather than a setting.
If the toggle doesn't work
Check you're on the Navigation tab in page settings and not looking at Site Styles, which controls how the header looks rather than whether it appears.
Check the live page rather than the editor, since the editor sometimes keeps showing the header while you're working.
And if the header is gone but a gap remains where it was, that's usually custom CSS or a section padding value expecting the header to be there. A quick fix, but a code one.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove the header on just one page in Squarespace?
Yes, it's a per-page setting. Open the page's settings, go to the Navigation tab and toggle the header off. Other pages are unaffected.
Where is the option to hide the header?
Pages panel, hover the page, click the gear icon, then the Navigation tab. It's not in Site Styles, which only controls appearance.
Should I remove navigation from my landing pages?
For pages receiving paid traffic, usually yes, since fewer exits generally means better conversion. Keep your logo and one clear action, and don't do it on pages people reach from search.
Can I hide the header only on mobile?
Not with the built-in toggle, which applies to the whole page. Device-specific behavior needs custom CSS.
