How to Create an Exact Copy of Your Website

This feature is incredibly helpful whether you’re a business owner wanting a safe space to test design changes or a web designer working on a client’s site without touching their live version. Today, I’ll walk you through exactly how to do this.

Why Do This to Your Website on Squarespace?

This can be useful for many reasons:

Safety: Test design changes, custom code, or new layouts without affecting your live website.
Collaboration: Share a copy with a designer or developer without risking your main site.
Efficiency: Create multiple versions of your site for different projects or clients.

Step 1: Access Your Dashboard

Log into your Squarespace account and head to your dashboard. From here, locate the site you want to duplicate.

Step 2: Open Site Options

Next to your chosen website, click the three dots (…) to open the menu.

Step 3: Copy the Website

From the dropdown options, select “Duplicate Website.” It will begin copying every aspect of your site—pages, content, settings, and design. This process may take a moment.

Step 4: Refresh Your Dashboard

Once duplication is complete, refresh your dashboard. You’ll see the new version of your website labeled as a “copy.” This is your fully functional duplicate site, ready for edits without affecting the original.

Accessing the New Website

Your duplicated site will look and function exactly like your original. From here, you can:
- Test code or design edits safely.
- Share it with a collaborator.
- Use it as a starting point for a brand-new project.
