If you’ve built a new Squarespace site and want to connect your existing domain to it, you’ll need to move the domain from your old site. The good news is the process is quick and doesn’t require any technical experience.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through exactly how to do it step by step.

Why Transfer Domain on Squarespace to a New Site?

There are a few reasons you may want to shift your domain to another site:

• Fresh design or rebrand: You’ve built a new version of your site and want the same domain name pointing to it.

• SEO continuity: Keeping your current domain avoids losing authority or search rankings.

• Ease of management: Squarespace keeps domains simple to handle within their platform.

Step 1: Log Into Your Old Website

Start by logging into the Squarespace site where the domain is currently connected.

Go to Settings, and you’ll be taken directly to the Domains section. Here you’ll see all the domains owned or connected to this site.

Step 2: Select the Domain

Find the domain you’d like to move and click on it. A pop-up will appear with options.

Click Move Domains to continue.

Step 3: Choose the Destination Website

Squarespace will display a list of all your sites that have active, paid subscriptions.

⚠️ Note: Your new site must already have a subscription for the transfer to work.

Click on your new site, then hit Save to begin the process.

Step 4: Wait for the Process to Finish

The move can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. Once complete, your domain will point to your new site automatically.
