Lovable vs Squarespace: Which One Should Run Your Business Website?

Lovable and Squarespace both get you a website, but they’re different kinds of tools. Lovable is an AI app builder: you describe what you want and it writes the code. Squarespace is a website platform: you build pages in an editor and it handles everything underneath. For most business websites, Squarespace is the safer place to land. Lovable is the better pick when the site needs app-like features or you’re happy working in prompts and code. I host Lovable sites and build on Squarespace, so I’ll be straight about both.
How they work
Lovable turns prompts into a real React app. You type “add a pricing page with three plans” and it writes the code, which you can also sync to GitHub. That’s powerful: you can build things a page builder can’t, like logins, dashboards or a custom calculator. It also means your website is now software, and someone has to look after it.
Squarespace is a hosted platform with a visual editor. You choose a layout or have one designed, then drag in text, images, forms and products. Hosting, security, SSL and updates are handled for you, and there’s no code to maintain unless you add some on purpose.
Is Lovable bad for SEO?
Not by itself, but it’s the biggest practical difference for a business site. Many Lovable sites have been built as client-rendered React apps: the server sends an almost empty page, and the text only appears once JavaScript runs in the browser. Google can run JavaScript, but it does it later and less reliably, and many AI search tools don’t run it at all. The common symptom is pages stuck on “Discovered, currently not indexed” in Search Console.
Newer Lovable projects may be set up differently, so check yours: open your site, choose View Page Source, and look for your headings and paragraphs. If they’re missing, search engines are seeing an empty page. It’s fixable with prerendering or server rendering, but someone has to set it up.
Squarespace sends complete pages by default, with editable titles, descriptions and a sitemap. If your site isn’t showing up at all, these eight common causes are a good place to start.
Making changes day to day
On Lovable, you change the site by prompting. Small edits are quick, but every prompt uses credits, and a change in one place can quietly break something in another. Anything the AI gets stuck on means opening the code.
On Squarespace, you click on the text and change it. A teammate can update hours, add a blog post or swap a photo without touching anything else. It’s less flexible, and that’s the point: it’s hard to break.
Lovable vs Squarespace cost
Lovable’s paid plans start at about $25 a month for Pro, which is also where custom domains start. Credits pay for building and for hosting on Lovable Cloud, so a site you change often costs more, and extra credits are sold on top. Squarespace plans run about $19 to $99 a month on annual billing, and most business sites sit on Core at $29. Prices change, so check both pricing pages before you decide.
The bigger cost on either one is time: yours, or whoever builds and looks after the site. I broke down the Squarespace side in the full cost guide.
When Lovable is the better pick
Pick Lovable if the site needs to behave like an app: user accounts, a dashboard, a booking flow with custom logic, or a tool your customers use. It’s also great for testing an idea fast. It works best when you’re comfortable reading some code, or have someone who is.
When Squarespace is the better pick
Pick Squarespace if the site’s job is to explain what you do, get found on Google and turn visitors into calls, bookings or sales. Service businesses, studios, consultants, restaurants and small stores usually fall here, especially when the people editing the site aren’t developers.
Already built your site with Lovable?
You don’t have to start over. If the site works and you like it, keep it and hand off the running of it: I host and maintain Lovable sites on their own stack, with SEO and AI search set up from the start. If you’d rather own a site anyone on your team can edit, I rebuild it on Squarespace at a fixed price, with redirects so you keep what you’ve built up in search.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lovable good for business websites?
It can be, especially if the site needs app-like features. For a typical marketing site that has to rank on Google and be edited by people who aren’t developers, Squarespace is usually less work over time.
Is Lovable bad for SEO?
Not by itself, but many Lovable sites send search engines a mostly empty page until JavaScript runs, which can slow or block indexing. It’s fixable with prerendering or server rendering. Check your page source to see what search engines actually get.
Can I move my Lovable site to Squarespace?
Yes, but it’s a rebuild: the design gets recreated in Squarespace and your content moves over, with a redirect for every old URL. I do this as a fixed-price AI website redesign.
Which is cheaper, Lovable or Squarespace?
On subscription alone they start in a similar place, roughly $20 to $30 a month. Lovable costs climb with how much you change the site, because edits and hosting use credits.
